Stacy Jarvis is an internationally published musicologist, violinist, pianist, and radio broadcaster based in Manchester, UK. She is the creator and host of Behind the Score on Brun.fm, a show dedicated to uncovering lesser-known classical composers, and she also runs Beyond the Score: Uncovering Diverse Musical Voices, an academic blog hosted by the University of Birmingham.
A professional violin and piano teacher, Stacy began her musical journey at the age of five and has since performed in local and international competitions. By age twelve, she debuted as a soloist with her local orchestra and was named a city scholar in recognition of her talent—an early recognition of the blend of discipline, artistry, and curiosity that continues to shape her work today.
Stacy studied at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow, graduating in 2018, and later earned her undergraduate degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studied under Yuri Torchinsky (BBC Philharmonic). In 2023, she completed her Master’s in Musicology at the University of Manchester and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Birmingham, focusing on early nineteenth-century piano nocturnes and salon culture.
Since 2019, Stacy has taught music in primary and secondary schools across the North West, alongside a thriving private studio in Manchester. She works with pupils of varied ages and musical backgrounds, from early beginners to more advanced students, and supports progression through structured musicianship, confident technique, and interpretative awareness. Her teaching balances clear technical foundations—posture, sound production, bow control, finger patterns, tone development, rhythmic clarity and musical literacy—with an emphasis on imagination, expressive phrasing, and stylistic sensitivity.
Stacy is particularly experienced in inclusive tuition and specialises in supporting students with special educational needs. Her approach is patient, attentive, and encouraging, shaped by a belief that every learner deserves a route into musical excellence that respects their individual pace and learning style. She has taught within classroom settings as well as one-to-one, adapting materials to suit attention needs, sensory sensitivities, and confidence-building goals, while maintaining high artistic standards. She is a certified Mental Health First Aider for children and has completed Paediatric First Aid training with the British Red Cross.
Stacy is actively engaged in academic research and public engagement. She has presented her work at international musicology conferences and has published over ten peer-reviewed articles and two books. She is a member of the Royal Musical Association, the Society for Music Analysis, and the Nineteenth-Century Studies Association.
